• Colorado driver's license & vehicle registration: new residents must convert their license and register vehicles within the state's required timeframe — handle it early (check current Colorado DMV requirements and deadlines);
• Voter registration & address updates: update your address everywhere (USPS forwarding, banks, IRS, etc.);
• Utilities: set up electric/gas (Colorado Springs Utilities is the city-owned provider), internet, water and trash;
• Healthcare: find local providers and understand your insurance in-network options (the city has strong healthcare — as an economic sector);
• Register kids for school in your district (schools).

Acclimating

• Take the altitude seriously for the first weeks — hydrate, ease into exercise, expect some adjustment (altitude);
• Gear up for the lifestyle: layers, sun protection, and whatever outdoor gear matches your interests (the outdoors);
• Learn the geography: a spread-out, car-dependent city — get oriented to the areas and your commutes.

Building a life

• Find community through activity: outdoor groups (hiking, running, climbing, cycling clubs), gyms, faith communities, hobby and volunteer groups, and newcomer/social meetups — shared activity is the fastest route to friends in an outdoorsy city;
• Explore deliberately: visit the icons and the neighborhoods, find your regular spots (things to do);
• Military-connected? Base communities and veteran networks are large and welcoming here;
• Be patient: building a social life anywhere takes months — say yes early and show up consistently.
